Bashania Quingchenghanensis

 

Bashania quingchenghanensis

Native mainly to China.

Fairly new to cultivation and still quite rare. Only two species are available in the West, It is an extremely tough bamboo well suited to harsh sites and cold areas.

Plants have a very sturdy appearance. Running species (leptomorphic)

 

Uses: Good for windbreaks, hedging and landscaping.
Site: Sun or partial shade
Hardiness:

Min. -20 C

Height: 2 – 4 m smaller in height than B. fargesii.
Spread: 1–2m open and running species, but with a manageable rootstock.
Culms: Max. Diameter 1cm could reach 4m high, green with pale yellow green waxing
  below the nodes and have thick, hairy, persistent sheaths.
Leaves: Slim leaves up to 25cm (10in) long.
 

Hardy bamboo with lots of early new growth resulting in a dense crop of dark

  green foliage with pale yellow-green waxing below the nodes.
Soil:

All types of soil except permanently wet, tolerates drier soils than most bamboos.
